Slow down — talk to non-native speakers (and fellow stutterers)

Slow down — talk to non-native speakers (and fellow stutterers) One of the best things I've found for managing my stutter is to slow down, speak calmly, and pause where it feels right. And you know what really helps with that? Talking to non-native English speakers. I'm Japanese, and English isn't my first language either. When you're talking to someone who's also not fluent, there's no pressure to be fast or perfect. You both just... take your time. I recently went on Pedro Pena's podcast "My Stuttering Life" to talk about a communication assistance app I've been building. And honestly, Pedro's English was so easy to follow because he gets it. He takes his time too. And as a non-native speaker myself, I find that pacing way easier to listen to than fast fluent speech. The pauses actually help me follow along. Pedro and I understood each other just fine and that's all that matters. So if you're struggling, try connecting with people outside the native English world. You might be surprised how natural it feels.
