About Stuttering Experience
The goal of Stuttering Experience is simple: to provide a searchable window into the many different ways people experience stuttering. Stuttering is highly variable across individuals, situations, emotions, and stages of life, and no single story fully captures what it means to live with it. This site allows curious members of the public, people who stutter, clinicians, students, and researchers to explore real discussions shared by the stuttering community over time. By making these experiences searchable and easier to explore, the project aims to highlight both the diversity and the common humanity within stuttering.
The site is built from publicly available Reddit discussions, including posts dating back to the very first post on r/stutter in March 2011. Traditional Reddit search tools and APIs are often limited in how far back they can reliably retrieve content, with standard API listings generally restricted to a relatively small portion of a subreddit's history. This project was designed to preserve and organize these conversations into a fully searchable archive that can support exploration and research across more than a decade of lived experiences. The hope is that this resource can help accelerate research, uncover patterns that might otherwise remain hidden, and perhaps most importantly, help people who stutter realize they are not alone in what they experience.
