The best thing you can do for her is not bring attention to the stutter. If you normalize her way of communicating, you will help take some pressure off of her. I know from experience it’s extremely hard sometimes to just sit quietly and wait for them to finish, but it’ll help her stutter and may help her frustration too. Our SLP told us that the less awareness we bring to the issue, the higher the chance that we won’t make it worse. If it gives your anxiety any relief, my child has been stuttering since he could form phrases and it’s never stopped. Chances are very high your daughter’s stutter isn’t here to stay. But if it does, there is no shame in being a stutterer. Some people just communicate differently and that’s all. But if you continue to see her struggle and be frustrated, especially after 3 months, make an appointment.
