> The other thing he says is that he will not he able to get a good job because of his speech. He is not alone in feeling that way about him stutter. It isn’t a hard barrier to good paying jobs but some people certainly feel that way. >And the therapist said that another one of his patients has a stutter worse than my son's and he is a Vice President at a Fortune 500 company. And that the way he deals with it is that he doesn't consider it a problem and he just presses on no matter how much he stutters until he communicates the message he is trying to deliver. But I don't think he really put any credence into it because he finds it debilitating. A general problem with disabilities is someone else’s similar disability being “worse” doesn’t particularly help that person. This applies equally to stuttering; especially if he is at emotional an emotional low. Instead of “the sky is the limit” and this too shall pass, which is what I suspect you are going for by that example. More practically it can be very difficult for him to view stuttering as a problem on equal footing as other problems that you need to work on to achieve what you want. >He thinks he will end up at some minimum wage the rest of his life because of this problem and I tell them that many people have overcome this or learned to live with it. Stuttering isn’t a hard barrier to good jobs but a lot of people feel like absolute garbage with respect to their stutter. That is how the stutter itself makes them feel based on their disfluency. >Also my wife has noticed that his stutter comes in ebbs and flows. He has weeks when he stutters more than others. I have never noticed myself A lot of stutters have a hard time believing that people not noticing their stutter is a thing. People his age can be incredibly cruel and will pick any other kid just to make themselves feel better. They aren’t targeting his stutter because he has no worth, they’re targeting his stutter because they feel inadequate about themselves... and they haven’t encountered the adult world were the tables get turned in general pretty quickly to favor skill set over petty high school style behaviors.
