I read the book “it” by Stephen king this summer and there is a character that stutters in the book. His speech-language therapist tells him to focus on his middle name rather than his first name when introducing himself. I know this is a fiction novel, but I really liked this idea. It takes the pressure off when saying your first name because you are focusing on a different part of the name. I’ve been trying it a little on my day to day but I usually don’t have troubles with names. I’ve noticed it helps a bit with that initial pressure. You don’t know the middle name make one up. Might take a bit of practice but worth a try. If you do try it I’d like to hear how it went!
