Thank you! This is really, really helpful. I think that's pretty much what I was doing last night--I would make eye contact until I started to worry that it was getting awkward, and then I would jot something down in my notes and wait patiently. Everyone else seemed to instinctively do pretty much the same thing. Another question that just occurred to me: this is a wine study group, so we will be tasting/drinking wine every time we get together. Does intoxication have an effect on stuttering--making it worse or better? Maybe it's different for everyone? My automatic hypothesis would be that drinking would relax you and make the stutter go away (kind of like how I am wayyy less afraid to try and converse in foreign languages when I've been drinking)--but I have no idea really!
