Childhood stuttering often worsens into adulthood because the brain’s speech-motor pathways become more rigid, self-conscious anxiety amplifies the problem, and compensatory habits lock in over time. This is very common because as our lives become move into greater responsibility, we self monitor our stutter more and we become more and more anxious about it, causing us to stutter and block more due to fear of being ridiculed. If it hasn’t gone in early childhood, you’re stuck with it for life. You learn to adapt once you implement fluency shaping strategies. It’s a rough road 😢
