Thank you for your very thoughtful and thorough response. He really likes his new speech therapist and is such an easy going kid. He has been seeing her for the last few months and seems to genuinely look forward to the sessions. It is also highly plausible that he is neurodivergent (ADHD) or has a touch of ‘tism since his father also does. He can spend hours focusing on a 700+ piece Lego set, but will do laps around the dinner table when trying to eat. I’m wondering if any ADHD therapies (when old enough) would help him with slowing down. With regard to the robotic speech, it feels like the disfluency comes out stronger when he is focusing on pronouncing the sounds correctly. Instead of pausing and saying “um” or another similar speech filler, he will repeatedly say “but…but…but” or “also…also…also”. It feels like he is trying to buy himself time to think. It just feels like there is no rhyme or reason to his disfluency timing or triggers. He was talking a million miles a minute at the zoo, telling every stranger where to find a snake in an enclosure with ease, but the disfluency would come out when talking to us. I would expect it to be more pronounced when he is tired or excited, but that isn’t always the case. I just want what’s best for him and for him to avoid any cruelty from his classmates. One of my biggest fears is him being bullied when he starts kindergarten in the fall. My mama heart won’t be able to handle some little punk picking on my baby and I don’t need to go to jail 😓
