Your suggestion to volunteer is very good - I would have never thought of this myself. My school actually has volunteering opportunities so I think I will ask for the list of available positions next year (January) and try to choose one that I can do competently which provides for some small opportunity to speak. Also, I do think you are completely correct when you say that I need somebody who will allow me to talk without pressure or judgement. I find that the less patience that is had with me, the more bothersome the stutter becomes which just irritates that person more. For example, my parents despise talking to me and are always very blunt and mocking so I can never say anything, whereas my personal tutor is very used to how I talk and doesn’t become angry with me so it is much easier to speak. In my mind, I always assume that people will be harsh and so I am always anxious.
