Stuttering & how I think I JUST solved the puzzle. I created this reddit account just for the sole purpose of posting here. I've been a lurker for what it seems like years. I'm not going to bore you with my history and what not but I've been stuttering ever since I could remember. First of all, seeing how this portion of the internet (judging on how you type) might be intelligent, I want you guys to look up LiveStutterFree.com. I have a strong belief she knows what she is talking about but the price is outrageous and my parents would never let me.. nor would I let myself. Please give it a shot by just reading what she has to say, and join the FB group. I think there is gold here. I am VERY serious about this.. she offers to answer all of your questions for FREE so I don't really believe she is after the money but ehhh I don't know, you know? Perhaps it's because she lasts 8 hours per day for 3 days for complete elimination of stuttering and free consultations after that for free if you begin stuttering again? (She says usually it takes 5 minutes to normalize speech again if you relapse) But how I think I solved the puzzle doesn't just involve that. I believe Morton Cooper's videos on bobbling and Valsalva played a huge part so look that up...... BUT I've been observing myself for a good week and I think I found out why I personally stutter. Now, let me tell you.. when I'm alone I don't stutter at all. So I have a belief that I do something physically and mentally that blocks my speech when I'm around other people. Maybe this was because an event that happened in the past? I don't really know. Basically, what I'm trying to say is that, if I could speak fluently in ONE situation (By myself, or at least me THINKING I'm by myself) then I could speak fluently in ALL situations. I mean, doesn't it make sense? So i thought about this: (I saw a user's post here from 8 months ago and I'm using his words because they make so much sense) Stutters who "block" unconsciously hold their inhale. They don't exhale when they are blocking. Fluent speakers unconsciously exhale as soon as their lungs are at a comfortable capacity. Do not think about stuttering under any circumstance and DO NOT BE SCARED. DO NOT BE SCARED. Please let me know what you have to say, if you are confused, etc. I typed this in a rush. I am eager to hear various opinions especially from here. Thank you :) EDIT: I forgot to say that not thinking about stuttering is a very big deal. It's a fear that the more you think about it.. the more you strengthen it. Think about it, there is no such thing as perfect speech (Morton Cooper's teachings) . Everyone has bobbles, but people who stutter do something different. They REACT to it. YOU, YOU RIGHT HERE. YES YOU. YOU REACT TO YOUR OWN BOBBLES. THAT IS THE MISTAKE WE ALL MAKE. If we don't react to it, breathe correctly and forget about it I think we can solve it. But hey, because of therapy and various methods employed by different stutters no method can probably cure every stutterer because every stutterer has slightly different learned habits I think. I'm pretty lucky I haven't been in speech therapy and therefore I was open to everything by my own terms.. & I'm probably missing a whole bunch of stuff too because I went through a phase where I would start doing the motions most stutters do.... but then I stopped it... I don't know, I don't want to think about it. Afraid it's going to happen again lol.
