How does your family respond to your stutter? Hi reddit this is my first post so... hi there. I am 20 years old and somehow I've managed to hide the severity of my stutter from my family. They know that I've had a stutter since I was a kid but we've never really talked about it. What I've been doing is speaking using simple sentences and asking simple questions that I know I can say and substituting difficult words when I am with them. I'm not quiet or anything but I'm a terrible story teller because I'm limited in what I can say. When I am with my friends I feel more free to stutter if I need to. So anyways, the other day I was talking with my brother who I carpool to college with any my stutter caught me by surprise. He says, "what class do you have next?", and I struggle to respond "I have...ee...eee...en...English!". He gave me this really confused look and kinda chuckled but after that we didn't talk about it. My whole family is very fluent so I guess my biggest fear is them worrying about me. What do you guys think? Do you talk about your stutter with your parents/family? What to they think about it? I do want to seek help like speech therapy or something but I know that I would have to confront them about it first.
