In case legaladvice needs some help, I would suggest the possibility of 'Constructive Discharge' under the NYC Human Rights Law. I'm not a lawyer (nor even American), but most Western countries have laws to avoid similar practices as the one you may be describing above. In Canada, it's called "Constructive Dismissal" and is prohibited.
