5th year English Lit class. I was asked the question why I kept looking at the clock. The question was enough to trigger a block then a hard fault on a D sound. Off guard moment. Whole class laughed, like they been my core class for five years and they all knew and they even knew I was sensitive to it unlike a friend in my class who was a lot less affected by stuff like that. I left the room and my teacher, thankfully one of my major role models growing up, came out of the class to speak with me. He did so as an adult who cared. Later when I got a part in the school play he was working behind the scenes to make sure the teacher who was directing gave me consideration and patience. That would lead to doing an undergraduate degree in drama at QUB. 2.1 Hons specialising in Irish theatre, theatre politics and classical shakespeare, and player in no less that five plays at uni, two of which where shakespeare and one got me a nice trip to Italy to perform at a summer festival on behalf of the university. The bee in my gut for everything started when I looked at that clock. One role I played was Shylock "if you prick us do we not bleed" of Venice. I used the classroom moment for inspiration for that monologue.
