In Junior High, I sold newspaper subscriptions door-to-door. I'm not sure if I sold them because I'm the worlds best salesman, or if they pitied me. Either way, I made BANK. And by bank, I mean I made $5 and hour (for three hours) and had to buy my own dinner three times a week. When I was in high school, I did a lot of odds and ends stuff for people at my church. Dog walking, Math and Science tutoring, chaperoning...Didn't make a lot, but it was a way to make money without having an actual job. Once I got to college, I worked as a bank teller. This was a pretty cool first job. By this point I was nearing 100% covertness. I only spoke freely with a few select friends, and my family, but in public, fluency was my main objective (I don't recommend this btw). Now, I'm back in college, and I stutter, block, and generally talk the way I want to. I'm too old to care about what other people will say, or act around me. If you have a problem, guess what that's for you do deal with. I'm no longer ashamed of my "disability," and I think that is for the best.
