Researchers have found stuttering typically, but not always, runs in families leading to a belief the disorder is passed down. While there have been significant advances in finding specific genes responsible for stuttering, a concrete answer has yet to be discovered. In some people, it is also psychosocial. Stuttering generally presents approximately at the age of three which suggests a neural component. Most children who stutter tend to show developmental anomalies of Broca's area which is responsible for some of our speech production. I've found solace in accepting my speech and doing the best I can with what I have to work with.
