ADHD Meds and Disfluency First time posting to this subreddit and have two questions. The first is what is the potential impact of stimulant-based ADHD drugs, in particular Vyvanse which is essentially Dexedrine, and stuttering. I have a 25 year stepson who has a pronounced stutter who did some research and said that Vyvanse would help his stutter and a couple of years ago convinced his doctor that he suffered from ADHD. Now he's convinced my other stepson, who is an 18 year old high school senior with a moderate stutterer that Vyvanse can help him too. The 18 year old has found his stuttering almost crippling and went from one of the most popular kids in school to a loner with few friends in a year. He doesn't speak in class and has trouble talking to other students except these two boys. He has no stutter when he talks to his brothers and his step-brother who is my son. And no stutter when I hear him playing games on the XBox. But as soon as he starts talking to my wife and I or a new person his stutter emerges. Anyway, everything I have read with a very simple Google search tells me that amphetamine-based ADHD drugs actually worsen stuttering. And that Strattera, which contains no amphetamines might actually help stuttering if the person truly has ADHD. Anyway, I would like to get your feedback and anything I can show my boys to let them know they are not doing themselves any good. My second question is has anybody seen the article that suggests that Xanax combined with Celexa can help with stuttering? And has anybody had success with this combination? And finally, what kind of Doctor would prescribe such a combo? I don't think our primary care provider would prescribe these medications based on an article. I googled disfluency, stuttering and medical doctors and couldn't find anything of value. Anyway, I live in the Dallas area if anybody has suggestions on specialists.
