There have been other threads you can search on this sub from parents. Those school SLPs sound horrible. School based SLPs in general don't know much about stuttering but the one who compared him to an alcoholic sounds particularly awful. She is right about there being no cure though. The good news is there's nothing that needs curing and trying to make him fluent will likely lead to bad outcomes. The hunt for a good SLP who understands stuttering is difficult but it well worth it. In the meantime, I would teach your child that stuttering is ok and encourage him to say everything he wants to say and not avoid or stay quiet. I would also not treat stuttering like a poisonous elephant in the room as kids can pick up on that. His stuttering is ok, he just needs to believe it and learn how to let himself talk the way his body wants without doing a bunch of stuff to avoid it. A good SLP can identify those avoidance behaviors and help.
