How young is the child? If they are old enough, let them indicate how they want you to help (or not help). Some of us like it when someone else "finishes our sentence" if they can tell we are struggling. Others would like you to give us the patience to finish our thought. For most of us who stutter, our minds are always racing regarding what we *want* to say vs. what we *can* say, and how we can substitute words to make things smoother.
