Hi! I think it's great that you are looking to start therapy! It actually helped me significantly with my stutter. When I went speech therapy a few years ago, I described my sessions as 50% speech therapy and 50% therapy and it felt that the therapy component was more powerful and useful for me! Now I have been in therapy with a regular therapist for the past year. I disclosed to her in my first session that I have a stutter. I just want to put it out there, any therapist which makes you feel uncomfortable or treats you like there's something wrong with you does not worth your time. OK, you might feel uncomfortable if you have a lot of negative feelings about your stutter but your therapist can certainly help you to work through that! Any good therapist should also be willing to do a 15 minute free consultation call/meet and greet. Try talking to a few and pick the one you vide with the most. Also, if it's helpful for you, mention in the email to them that you have a stutter (for me doing that can make me stutter less). Again, no therapist worth your time would have any issue with that. Full disclosure, I am working towards getting a masters in psychotherapy and becoming a therapist myself and would love to work with other people with stutter. So you can find all kinds of therapists!
