Also remember that if one of them starts to stutter, there is a lot that can be done before they reach school age. Treatment is most effective before they start school, after that it gets harder. My son started stuttering when he was 2.5 years old. It was hard for me to watch him struggle. I started reading all existing research on children and stuttering (which is mostly of poor quality) and contacted SLPs that specialize in stuttering in children. Like many others here I had bad experiences with useless SLPs. They need to specialize in stuttering, it's to complex to do part time. Now he's 3.5 and the effect of the program is easy to see. It's up to the parents, the SLP can only instruct the parents. It's a 24/7 thing at home. Just so you know it's still somewhat in your hands if your children starts to stutter:) I really wish my parents did this with me, but they don't stutter, so they could never know why it's so important.. A few on my mothers side have a mild stutter, so that's where i got it from.
