I'll go even one step further (yes, I'm feeling philosophically rambunctious today) and say that our stutter can turn into a drive for self-improvement. It is not spite of, but arguably BECAUSE I stutter that I ended up pursuing public-speaking, stand-up comedy and a social lifestyle. All of these involved (and still involve) LOTS of discomfort, but once we shift our perception of the discomfort, interesting things can happen.
