I did it. I was on SSI for 3 years before they were able to kick me out. My advice to you is to have as much documentation of your disability as humanely possible. I had years of back up. From a car wreck in 1996 to years of therapy. I had no prior work history. At first they denied me. I didn't get a lawyer but I appealed and was approved. My back pay was about 2k and I got $710 a month. I would suggest getting a part time job at a local Walmart as maintenance cleaning bathrooms you can have a job and get SSI benefits and food stamps. expect it to take 2 years and they will fight you the whole way. You'll have to be seen by their doctor and he won't want to approve you. Good luck
