“For some reason they class it as a disability” Stuttering is in fact a disability. I’m not sure why so many stutterers try to deny it. A stutterer will inevitably face prejudice, social disadvantages, employment discrimination, and overall a reduced quality of life in general. As someone with a permanent severe stutter (happens in every situation and on almost every syllable of every word), I may as well be mute. It’s not fun having to rely on a text-to-speech assistive device to orally “speak”, nor is it fun to be barred from employment from jobs I’m perfectly qualified for solely because of my disability. If we don’t categorize stuttering as a disability, people like us (especially those with severe stuttering) will have even fewer protections under the law.
