I’m a new Speech Therapist and I need your advice Hi! I’m a first year SLP in the US school system. I work in both public and private schools. I recently screened a few students that stutter. Full disclosure: I’m terrified. I’ve listened to podcasts from the stuttering foundation for the past three days straight. Honestly, the goal for me isn’t fluency. I just want them to be happy and comfortable speaking. But I’m terrified I’ll do more harm than good. So I just want to know, what would you all would have loved for your childhood (think kindergarten) therapist to know when you were just starting therapy? What strategies were the most helpful and least restrictive? What is something I should absolutely avoid? Please be kind, I really do just want to do my best for these students.
