Question - Body/movement/thought Stuttering Hello! I have a question for you fellow stutterers. I have been noticing, in the last 4-5 years, I seem to have began experiencing body and thought stuttering. And, I was wondering if anyone else experiences the same or similar things...? Now, I don't mean how your lip, head, or arms may move/jerk when you are in the middle of a stutter. I have had that my whole life and know it is quite normal among us. I mean, I will reach for a gallon of milk from the fridge and find myself pausing and unable to move my hand forward. Then, much like when stuttering with words and I have to use a different word to get myself talking again, I either have to use my other hand to grab the milk or wait it out. Another good example is I went to throw away a paper towel and once I got my right hand above the trash can, I couldn't let go of it. I had to take the paper from my right hand, with my left hand, and then throw it away. I also find myself stuttering in my thoughts. If I am thinking about something, I can find myself in a loop with it. Example. The other day I was repeating a phone number in my head and when I got to the 7, I just kept repeating it. Over and over. I find it just as hard as pushing through a physical audible stutter. I either need to wait it out or think of another way/word to reach the same end of the thought, Perhaps these are normal to experience and I just didn't search for the correct terms. However, for me, these have not been an issue until the last few years and it seems to be getting worse over time. (I do notice my verbal stuttering has become worse over time as well). This has gone from happening once or twice a month to, sometimes, a few times per day. I worry this may be the sign of something worse but, I wanted to see if it is a common occurrence. If so, I will just chalk it up to the complexity or stuttering and learn to live with it. If not, I will most likely seek medical attention and make sure I am not suffering from something else. I worry this may end up causing harm to myself or others. ..The idea of telling my foot to push the breaks in my car and then it just going "naaaaahhhh, maybe later" kind of worries me. haha. Thanks for your input! Also, not sure if it matters but, my stutter has become pretty severe over the years. In my teens and 20s, I would stutter once over 15-30 words. Now, I stutter every 5-8 words.... I have sought medical advice on this and I was basically just told it is normal for stutters to either get better or get worse with age so, I have just learned to accept it. (I am in my 40s now)
