This comment is going to be long. Sorry in advance. I wish I knew what caused my stutter. I am a 22 year old woman and have stuttered since I was 9 years old. It sucks a lot to have to deal with this stutter day in and day out. I work at a fast food drive in place where it is common for the servers to skate at some locations. Naturally I take speaker, A LOT. Just this afternoon I was taking an order and did the usual intro, "Hi, thanks for coming to XYZ, can I take your order?" I stuttered on every word. My co-worker who was paired with me (all the headsets we wear are paired so one other person can help with orders as necessary) gave me that look. You know the look I mean, the pity look, the I'm sorry you have a stutter look. I tried to say my intro again because the customer hadn't understood me. Ofc. No luck and so I just signal to my coworker to take the order. After that she was quick to take most of the orders for a while. Naturally though, not all of my other coworkers could take every order so there were still several times I had to take it. I never get this one thing though, why is it that I am usually fluent after I get the intro in? Or when I am done taking an order, why is it I cannot say the total unless I repeat back the order first and then the price easily rolls off my tongue? Stuttering is weird at times. I can pretty much talk fluently with most of my coworkers, I have a few sounds I have trouble with and words but otherwise I am conversation with them with little issue. Then I hear the dreaded beeping sound in my ear that means it is time to take an order and I stutter. I started taking anxiety meds a few weeks ago and have been experimenting with how many to take and how far apart. My doctor told me to take as many as 3 a day or even just once. I think I just about figured out what works for me but it's the times I forget to take it on time that my stutter is the worse.
