I’m an slp and I can’t really diagnose bc I have never seen your child but adhd is more linguistic non-fluencies while pure stuttering is going to be more block/repetitions/prolongations that might have tension or secondary behaviors. The adhd non-fluencies are essentially real time revision of errors or a mechanism to allow for greater time to formulate a response/engage in word finding. I’m also gonna be so honest here. If it is just adhd non-fluencies, I’m not really sure if it’s worth trying to work on them in speech therapy because the therapy would essentially be “slow down” (easy to address with prompting), listen to your communication partner, and “think before you speak” (very challenging for any 5 year old). The non-fluencies are just part of the disorder and it’s better to encourage confidence in communication than fixate on fluent speech. Edit to say how are you reacting when she has disfluencies? Parents may unintentionally produce negative reactions which can have the unintended effect of increasing a child’s disfluencies.
