I am a SLP and a lifelong stutterer. I was a coward and had such low self esteem that I couldn’t stutter voluntarily. I needed to find an answer. I spent over 20 years researching how the brain learns. I discovered that I have a stuttering brain which is wired differently than a fluent brain. I realized that I did not have voluntary control of my Valsalva response which I strongly believe is the root cause of stuttering. Once I gained voluntary control of my Valsalva response I became fluent. I never had a relapse. It was a life changing experience.
