I was 8, 9, and 10 when I was in speech therapy. I honestly didn’t get a lot of useful information out of it and some of the techniques involved things that I consider to be shaming, like having my friends ‘remind me’ when I stutter. It really embedded into my brain that every single time I stutter there’s someone making a note of it. As a kid I legit had people voice it every time I slipped up at the suggestion of my speech therapist. It really made me feel inferior and self-conscious.
