Bad idea. Suicide contagion (sometimes called the Werther effect) is a well-documented phenomenon where open or graphic discussions of suicide can increase suicidal ideation among vulnerable readers. Research shows that even well-intentioned discussions can push someone already in crisis toward action, particularly if they identify strongly with the person being discussed. It’s extremely difficult for volunteer moderators to safely manage discussions where users may be actively suicidal or in mental health crises. Even if a subreddit has good intentions (e.g., “a place to talk openly”), moderators usually aren’t trained crisis workers. Posts can escalate quickly, and without real-time professional intervention, the community can become unsafe for both posters and readers. Many people in mental health recovery communities are still vulnerable. Reading detailed or emotionally intense posts about suicide can trigger relapses or distress in others who are trying to heal. If people genuinely want to talk about suicidal feelings (not methods or plans), there are safer ways to do it: Subreddits like r/SuicideWatch and r/Depression allow expression of distress but have strict moderation, crisis bot links, and community safety tools. External spaces with professional oversight: 7 Cups, IMAlive, or mental health hotlines offer discussion in a clinically safe environment. So, NO. You don't want a "less modded sub" for discussing suicide. In fact, you need quite the opposite.
