Is anyone familiar with cluttering, a related condition to stuttering? I have had a problem speaking for more than 20 years. I have what is known as cluttering, which is related to stuttering. My problem is rapid, jerky speech; poor articulation; mumbling; a problem with slurring words and improper timing/pausing. I don't repeat syllables, but I do sometimes have the speech blocks consistent with stuttering. Anxiety makes the problem worse, which then creates more anxiety. It is like my brain tends to overrun my mouth, and with the poor articulation, sometimes "words" come out like grunts and slurs. Like everyone else, I have good days and bad days. The best recommended treatment for cluttering is to a) slow down the rate of speech, which can naturally improve articulation, and b) purposely annunciate each syllable. Easier said than done, obviously. There are similarities to stuttering, and the emotional toll is the same. I have had the same problems with being picked on, laughed at, embarrassed, etc. It is not nearly as common or well-known as stuttering. Just curious if anyone is familiar with it. Here is a YouTube video that is a good example of cluttering: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LrvIloapL3Y
