Speech therapy didn’t help me hugely, because I somehow could never make fluency techniques work for me. I just couldn’t use them in actual life, or didn’t care to. But it did help a bit because going to speech therapy was the first time I ever heard an adult talk about stuttering in a straight forward way, without getting embarrassed about it. My family would always get embarrassed and awkward every time they mentioned it, which was messed up. Hearing the therapist talk about it casually like it was a normal thing was really therapeutic. Also the therapist would listen patiently and not act embarrassed or awkward when I would stutter, which was also therapeutic. Made me feel that it wasn’t just me messing up, but other people being awkward that contributed to the bad situations. Overall I don’t like the attitudes of most SLPs I’ve heard of or encountered, but it did have those good effects.
