Thanks for the context. I too found speech therapy helping DURING sessions, but as soon as I went out into the real world, over time my speech crumbled all over again. There’s so much more social and emotional load on the brain when talking to people who do not understand stuttering. Elevated Anxiety, adrenaline, rising cortisol & surging dopamine etc all play a huge part in speech dysfluency. Personally, I’m on daily anti-anxiety meds and I also take Baclofen (GABAergic) muscle relaxant. Helps me a tonne! I take a beta blocker, Propranolol, (only situationally) to subdue the physiological effects of adrenaline before an interview or presentation/speech. Helps a tonne!
