A technique I use to help combat my stutter

A technique I use to help combat my stutter Hey guys, I posted here a little while back about how being a socially-awkward stuttering musician sucks, but I thought about something that's actually been helping me get past those blocks or inability to start sentences. One of the instruments I play is drums, and that's an instrument that heavily requires a sense of rhythm. When you listen to songs, or you watch live videos of bands, some songs will start off with a four count ([one, two, three, four!](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DsgWfAilIEM)). That four count signals when the entire band should all start playing together. Whenever I prepare myself to talk, I'll lightly tap my finger four times before I start saying my sentence. Sometimes I'll even whisper or say "one two three four" in my head then burst right into my sentence. When I used to go to speech therapy, my therapist noted that one of the natural ways I get around my stutter is slurring into the start of my sentence. I work at a pizzeria (we'll call it "Smith's Pizzeria" for this example), and whenever a customer calls to place an order and I have to pick up the phone, I'll pick up saying "uh..Smith's Pizzeria!" The uh wouldn't be anything comprehensible, just a split-second starter word that would bleed into the first word of what I want to say. I sometimes modify my four-count technique where I would mentally say/tap "one two three", then on the fourth count, I'll start off with my "uh.." and mesh it into the sentence. I'll be honest, it doesn't work 100% of the time, but being a musician who's been heavily trained in rhythm, it's definitely a big help. It's just something I'd share with you guys, seeing as it helped me, it might help someone else. :)
