As a stutterer myself, it works for me also, I am American (deep southern) and if I try to speak in other accents its like my stutter disappears, but I believe this happens mainly because we use the right side of our brain when singing/talking in different tunes, and we use the left side when talking normally, so I hope this answered your questions, God bless :)).
