I would alert people beforehand so that if he gives you a bad grade, there is already a record and it won't be a he said / you said situation. I'm glad you'll give it anyway and that's the way to handle this, but if there's any shenanigans after in terms of grades I think it could be more of a hassle to deal with it without a record before the fact. Of course, you know the situation best.
