Yes, I went to my primary physician asking to be prescribed medication for stuttering and he said that the types of medications I was asking for would be better suited under a psychiatrist. I've heard of primary physicians prescribing the same medications and some who are uncomfortable with it. There are several theories about what cause stuttering but an excess amount of dopamine has been the most accepted. The study that I linked above is by a doctor who is considered the leading authority on stuttering from a medical standpoint.
