Alternatively, maybe you actually don't stutter less, but you're less aware of your stuttering. This is the fundamental flaw of the self-report of changes to stuttering frequency / severity under the influence of mind altering substances. Your mental faculties are altered, so how can you tell you're recalling the event accurately? Don't get me wrong, it's a common theme--that alcohol affects stuttering. However, some say it increases stuttering while others say it decreases stuttering. There are no empirical studies examining the effects of alcohol on stuttering. And it's totally reasonable to expect that alcohol might affect different people differently (it's also reasonable to think that alcohol might affect the same person different in different contexts). So, maybe you do stutter less, maybe you actually don't. Any one want to be a research subject for this study?!
