SLP lurker here. I think it's a good idea IF you can find the right clinician— someone who specializes in fluency specifically. SLPs in schools are usually jack-of-all trades, so it's a toss-up for getting good results as a kid. If you do outpatient as an adult and take your time finding the right therapist, you'll probably see better results. Imo, half of speech therapy should be counseling related to the stutter, and the other half should be direct education/practice in fluency-enhancing strategies. Best of luck to you :)
