I too struggle to fit in conversations sometimes because of my stutter. Especially in larger groups of people. If it's a 3-4 people conversation I tend to be able to speak better. It's good to surround yourself with people who are willing to listen to you even if you stutter. It's different at work. That's where you have to try your best to speak more fluently, 'cause people who are not your friends and family might not be as patient and understanding. About the last part about people who don't know you stutter. Yes, there is a brief moment when I meet new people where I barely stutter in their presence. It's a very strange phenomenon. It's like your brain releases a chemical and your whole body mobilizes in order to present yourself better and not stutter in front of people and get embarrassed. That's only temporary though. The moment you get comfortable around those people, you let your guard down and you start stuttering again.
