I learned to say “My name is Eric” rather than just “Eric” because the “em” sound is easier to slide into without others noticing, at least for me. Also the longer phrase gets my momentum going and the meter of the phrase seems to get me past the short “e” sound at the beginning of my name. Anyway that works for me almost always now.
