So, as a person that stutters and is a speech therapist, I get really frustrated with the discourse about ‘disability’. People that stutter DO NOT like to be considered disabled. I view disorders in term of differences and disabilities. There’s another popular ‘neurological’ dx that seems to tacitly indicate that you’re disabled as a default of the dx. Look, if your dx is disabling, then I understand, but it escapes me why people are so adamant on this disability classification. I have stuttered my entire life, and I am far from disabled, quite the opposite. It’s Fluency Disorders, not Fluency Disabilities.
