There are four types of medications that you can try: atypical antipsychotics (Saphris), selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (Lexapro), benzodiazepines (Xanax), and beta blockers (propranolol). The atypical antipsychotics excess dopamine in the brain but can carry significant side effects. SSRIs and benzos helps to reduce anxiety and beta blockers block adrenaline so you are less nervous in stressful situations. There is also a 5th category, buspar, it is like Xanax but is not addictive. I would avoid drugs such as Xanax as they are addictive and it is easy to build up a tolerance. When I met with my doctor, we tried a combination of drugs, starting with the safest drugs first since it is likely that I will be using the drugs long term. I started off with propranolol, it didn't work for me but it does work very well for some people. I've linked below a website that contains anecdotal information on stuttering and different medications. http://medsforstuttering.blogspot.com/
