This is a piece of advice that I have heard somewhere before. On a blog post of a PWS, a man wrote the only thing he asks of the person who calls and informs him of the interview is for them to let the interviewer know of his stutter. There also was a post on the NSA website under Stuttering in The Media where a SLP wrote about the positive benefits of letting people know that we stutter in the beginning of the interaction. I know what you're thinking, "but that is awkward." He had that covered too.
