No, I know it's a lot...I'm glad you're doing something instead of trying to wait it out. You may want to start with an SLP that accepts your health insurance, which may mean going through your health insurance website. Let's say there are five in your area...I'd call each one and ask if they have expertise in childhood stuttering, and are familiar with implementing the Lidcombe Program. (There are other techniques out there, but as I've said, in my opinion that's the best one for most young children, perhaps yours, although I have to be careful not to treat over the Internet.) If nobody seems adequate, you then have the option to turn to google and look into private pay...I'd try "speech therapist stuttering treatment" + "[your city here]". Private pay will range from $60-$250/hour (don't know where you're located). Again, ask the same questions about how much experience they have with childhood stuttering. If that's too much money, if you're near a university with a student SLP clinic, you can probably get services there that will be very good as well and cheaper, probably $10-$30/hour. Most Universities with a speech and language Masters program will have a stuttering specialist on staff who will know what to do. Also, the treatment manual is available for download online: http://www.lidcombeprogram.org/?page_id=280 (You want "Lidcombe Program Treatment Guide") I wouldn't try to implement it alone as it may be a tough read for a non-expert, but you can check it out there.
