There's a lot of habitualization involved in stuttering - or we might even say, "traumatization". It's not that we're actually telling the future, but rather that we're accustomed over a very long time to many distinct parts of our speech performance, perhaps even without knowing it. Paying attention to what happens to us during a stutter is a good start, though. It helps us not get too surprised when something happens.
