The single best thing anyone can ever do to me is give me their attention. It just means so much to look back (I tend to break eye contact when stuttering) and see that they're still paying attention. As opposed to studying the wall paper or whatever. Speak to the teachers to get them on board. I used to really struggle with the "good morning..." routine when doing the register, so we agreed with the teacher that I could say something else if I wanted to.
