As a speech pathologist I understand the dynamics of speech as it relates to the relationship between breathing and speech. The theory basically states that speech requires a steady and easy airflow through your vocal cords. The cords require consistent airflow to develop the sound of speech. The mouth then manipulates the sound into intelligible speech. When you interrupt the airflow you also interrupt speech resulting in blocks and repetitions which in turn results in stuttering. I spent a lot of time monitoring my airflow during speech. I did not speak without continuous and easy airflow. It took me a long time because my stuttering brain wanted to make me interrupt my airflow during speech resulting in a stressed airflow which caused me to stutter. It is all about teaching the stuttering brain to change your breathing pattern in relation to your speech. I knew I was soon going to be fluent when I was able to say my name fluently without any hint of a stutter. I am at a point that my brain has transformed from a stuttering brain to a fluent brain. I have almost forgotten that I was a stutterer most of my life. I have always considered stuttering a curse. What do you do with a curse you work really hard to get rid of it. This is what I did which has greatly changed my life.
