I'd say give it a little time. He's young enough that he may outgrow it. So far, I did not pass my stutter onto my children, but one of my kids does have a speech disorder (dysarthria). He can't coordinate speech and has such a quiet voice that no one can hear him. So, yeah... it sucks BUT my stutter was a lot less noticeable than his speech disorder. I worry about my kid's safety. People can't understand him when he says his name or that he's been sitting in shit on the bus for an hour and needs help getting changed. And he'll only repeat himself so many times, and like your kid - gets frustrated and upset that he can't communicate his basic needs. Then comes shut down mode. My advice: it'll be okay. It really will be - get him some therapy. We've been in ST since he was a year old, and it's REALLY helped in terms of practice and confidence. I also benefited from ST as an adolescent.
