Hey, I hear you. I had a lot of apprehension about a work related call today. It went better than expected, thankfully. In there lies some of the difficulty. We can be convinced the call is going to go badly even before we commence. The build up, the sense of dread and anticipation only adds to the sense of pressure… For me, as someone with a covert stammer, is that, when I have answered a call, I would usually be completely silent (locked in a block). Being caught on the first initial sound has always been the major difficulty. Making a call and having to get past the first “hello” or some other equivalent has also been a hugely difficult experience (over time). As such, I have dreaded the phone call from a young age..not so as much now… What I have found helpful is trying not to overthink the fact I have to make a call and sometimes have a visual cue as to what I am looking for etc..I have hung up countless times and have had calls ended on me countless times. But many others have exceeded my expectations… Is there scope to email, text measage etc your query? Perhaps, spend some time trying to settle the nerves before the call.. Whatever the outcome, let us know how you get on..we are rooting for you..
